Leading Ladies |
|
The Top20 Leading Ladies were chosen based
on fan appeal, quality of acting ability, their connection with
Elvis both on and off camera along with movie success. This may be
the most controversial list we have made yet. If you disagree with
our choices feel free to
contact us,
we will make changes if necessary.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Shelley Fabares Girl Happy, Spinout, Clambake We know your sitting their in shock so we will assure you of why Ann Margret isn't number one. Shelley was in an unmatched three Elvis films, had the sweetest attitude and both her and Elvis had a wonderful connection while both on & off camera with her & each of her roles were great.
2. Ann Margret Viva Las Vegas Her she is - Big Red. What do you say except for WOW. Not only did she bring the most sex and talent to an Elvis film she almost stole the picture from him. She is not number one for the simple reason that we had to have shock and awe, besides she didn't make it through three Elvis films - even though Elvis wouldn't have minded to much I am sure. Ann is the total package on the intense relationship they truly had simply helped the movie do even better.
3. Judy Tyler Jailhouse Rock The tragedy of Judy Tyler may be worse knowing how good she was in this film, what could have been for her? In this movie Elvis makes you hate him which helps you side much more with Peggy (Judy). Judy brought a "good, girl next door" attitude to the film and you really feel for her during the scene when she confesses her love for Vince (Elvis).
4. Juliet Prowse G.I. Blues The next actress that brought sex to her role was Juliet. Next to Ann she probably was the best looking of Elvis' costars and truly showed her talents in both acting and dancing in this movie - one wonders what Blue Hawaii may have been like had she starred opposite Elvis.
5. Joan Blackman Blue Hawaii, Kid Galahad Joan completed two films with Elvis but probably her biggest role was as Maile in Blue Hawaii. The stars have a great connection throughout the film. She also does a great job in her role in Kid Galahad both films are fan favorites and Joan is a true fan favorite for her roles.
6. Dolores Hart Loving You, King Creole Maybe the sweetest of all Elvis' costars is Dolores Hart - she also had a role in two Elvis films and portrait the good girl image very well. In both her roles we don't get to see a lot of her but you know the connection between her and Elvis is strong. Both were young, new actors and they fed of each other in each scene. Unfortunately, she ended her career early to become a nun.
7. Hope Lange Wild in the Country Some may wonder why Hope is so high on the list and it is this simple - she can ACT! She is not only portraying a much older woman but also a widow in the trenches of torn love. She plays the role perfectly in Wild In The Country and out of all the women in this movie, Hope has the most impact and is the leading lady.
8. Ursula Andress Fun in Acapulco The Latin diva burns up the screen with Elvis in Fun In Acapulco. I am sure Elvis had his eye on her from the time she came out of the water in a bikini in James Bonds Dr. No. She is another one of Elvis' costars who brings a lot of sex and mystique to the film.
9. Tuesday Weld Wild in the Country Tuesday Weld is high on our list because, well look at her - she is gorgeous. She brings the bad girl, baby face image to an Elvis movie. The two had a great connection both on and off camera. It is sad this movie didn't do better because it had the potential especially with Tuesday and Hope costarring opposite Elvis - Tuesday would later go on to play in a role based around Elvis titled Heartbreak Hotel.
10. Deborah Paget Love Me Tender Elvis' first co-star even though she was given equal billing with the King. Elvis admitted to a friend once, "the first on-screen kiss I had (with Deborah) I popped a hard-on". Take the story as you will but obviously she got Elvis going so she had to be a good costar. She is a fan favorite and appeared on Elvis' Milton Berle appearance before filming.
11. Mary Ann Mobley Girl Happy, Harum Scarum Appeared in two Elvis movies, and was the star in Harum Scarum. She radiates beauty and kindness and admits her roles were corky but her connection with Elvis was strong.
12. Carolyn Jones King Creole This may have been Elvis' best dramatic opposite of any of his movies. Carolyn Jones portrays such a mentally lost woman and yet she still makes you feel sorry for her and You believe her and yet you know she may just be in on the mob idea to get Danny (Elvis).
13. Nancy Sinatra Speedway On a personal note I dislike Nancy Sinatra very much, she won't ever get outside of her father's shadow despite her few hits and even fewer movies. We placed her in this spot because to some fans she is a favorite and you can't deny the charisma between her and Elvis in Speedway.
14. Barbara Stanwyck Roustabout This was the "big name actress" missing from previous Elvis movies. Although it was always about Elvis, supporting cast can really help the star. She does an excellent job and steals the show from Elvis' other costar in the film.
15. Barbara Eden Flaming Star We are also not a huge fan of Barbara Eden or her role in the film Flaming Star however she is a fan favorite and a good actress in her own right. This may have been the only movie where Elvis doesn't really "get" the girl.
16. Lizabeth Scott Loving You This performance was the first "very strong" costar role in an Elvis film. Lizabeth Scott does a tremendous job and for most of the film acts much like Colonel Parker in real life. Her impact in this movie, in our opinion, made it much easier on Elvis.
17. Laurel Goodwin Girls Girls Girls
We almost didn't mark down anyone from Girls Girls Girls but we realized that in many ways Laurel Goodwin not only did a good job but she is also a fan favorite - lesser words can be said about her costar Stella Stevens who never seemed to fall under Elvis' spell as we all did.
18. Yvonne Craig Kissin' Cousins, It Happened At the World's Fair
If you pick a costar from Kissin' Cousins it has to be Yvonne Craig. She acts like the perfect country girl - and who can forget her cameo in It Happened At the World's Fair, she not only got to make out with Elvis but also allowed him to sing "relax" to her. Just what women wish for...
19. Marilyn Mason The Trouble with Girls
The connection between these two was amazing. The film is hilarious and deserves much more credit than it gets. This is showing how Elvis typically used his charm and music to win the girl over.
20. Michele Carey Live a Little, Love a Little We mentioned earlier that Ann Margret had the most "sex" in an Elvis movie but this movie is filled with it and you can't deny that Michelle Carey wanted sex her first words to Elvis are "would you like to make love to me". Must we say much else? |
